Former Major Leaguer MIke Torrez Speaks at Shawnee County Baseball Hall of Fame Ceremony July 13th

The fifth annual Shawnee County Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony takes place on July 13th. Former major league pitcher Mike Torrez is the guest speaker for the event. 

Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. at Downtown Ramada Inn and Convention Center. Tickets are available for $25 for the Shawnee County Parks & Recreation office and Seabrook Apple Market. 

Table reservations are also available by calling Shawnee County Parks and Recreation. In addition to Hall of Fame members being honored, the Beany Conwell Award will also be presented. 

Torrez had an 18-year big league career where he pitched for seven different teams. He compiled an 185-160 record with a 3.96 ERA and 1,404 strikeouts. 

Torrez debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals at the age of 20 in 1967. He put together his best season with the Baltimore Orioles in 1975, going 20-9 with a 3.06 ERA. 

Torrez is best known for his season with the World Champion New York Yankees in 1977. He won two complete games in that year's World Series and caught the final out in the Yankees win.
