Former Major League Outfielder Darnell McDonald Keynotes Runyon Sports Wall of Fame Induction Banquet

Even after his playing career ended, Darnell McDonald found success in the sport he loves. He was able to share some of his story this week as the keynote speaker at the Runyon Sports Complex Wall of Fame induction banquet.

The event was sold out at the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center in Pueblo, Colorado. In addition to McDonald's presentation, several individuals were honored by being inducted into the Wall of Fame.

As a member of the Chicago Cubs organization, McDonald spoke about some of the key philosophies that he has learned from manager Joe Maddon. He talked about the team's run to the World Series as well.

McDonald currently serves as Chicago's mental skills coordinator. In his role, he teaches players tips on mindfulness, meditation and yoga.

During a seven-year major league career, McDonald suited up for six teams. He became one of the top prospects in baseball after being selected in the first round of the 1997 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

McDonald eventually made his big league debut with the Orioles in 2004 but did not see action again until 2007 with the Minnesota Twins. He persevered despite the obstacles and had the most success of his career as a reserve outfielder for the Boston Red Sox from 2010-12.
