Former Major League Infielder Adam Kennedy Speaks at HSGametime Athlete & Coach of the Year Awards

Adam Kennedy came out of Riverside, California and went on to a 14-year playing career in Major League Baseball. He was able to address the area's next wave of standout athletes at the Press-Enterprise HSGameTime Athlete & Coach of the Year Awards.

The event was held on Tuesday at Cal Baptist University's Innovators Auditorium. There were over 200 people in attendance and 23 student-athletes were honored.

Kennedy talked about some of his role models growing up and their role in making him a baseball success. He currently impacts a new generation of players as an assistant coach at Santa Ana Mater Dei High School.

Kennedy was a three-time All-American at Cal State Northridge and set school career records for hits, RBI and batting average. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the first round of the 1997 MLB Draft.

Kennedy debuted with the Cardinals in 1999 and was traded to the Anaheim Angels that offseason. He went on to be a standout with the Angels for seven seasons.

In 2002, Kennedy hit three home runs in Game 5 of the ALCS and was named MVP of the series. Anaheim went on to defeat the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.

After leaving the Angels, Kennedy has another two-year stint with St. Louis. He also played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers before retiring in 2012.
