Maurice Clarett's story may not end with induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but that does not mean that his impact does not extend far beyond the football field. He shared stories about his own battles with addiction and depression last Friday at an event for the ARCHway Institute.
The national non-profit helps people dealing with mental health and addiction issues. Clarett spoke to a group assembled at the Glendale Women's Club in Arizona about how his problems affected his football career.
He also talked about how he is snatching his life back and helping others do the same. The Phoenix chapter of the Ohio State alumni association helped make Clarett's visit possible.
As a freshman running back for the Buckeyes, Clarett had it all. He rushed for 1,237 yards and 18 touchdowns while helping OSU win the BCS National Championship.
Clarett was eventually selected in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos but never played a snap for the team. He dealt with several off-field problems and even spent time in prison before turning his life around.
Clarett has since developed multiple businesses and is a top speaker for executive groups. He also continues to give back and serve as an advocate for people in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio.
