Even though it has been almost two decades since Jim Donnan has coached college football, this remains a busy time of year for him. On Thursday, he was in South Carolina, speaking at the Orangeburg Touchdown Club. 

The event was held at The Cinema and emceed by former South Carolina State coach Willie Jeffries. Donnan shared some insights from his career and spoke about the state of college football. 

Several of his former players and even those who opposed him in his playing and coaching career were in attendance. Current South Carolina State head coach Buddy Pough introduced Donnan and gave an update on his team. 

Donnan first made waves as a quarterback and the 1967 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year at NC State. He began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater and was also on the staff at Florida State, North Carolina, Kansas State, Missouri and Oklahoma.

In 1990, Donnan got his first head coaching opportunity at Marshall University. He led them to the I-AA national championship in 1992 and posted five consecutive 11-win seasons. 

Donnan also coached at the University of Georgia from 1996-2000 and compiled a 40-19 record. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
