Former Baseball Star Lance Berkman Keynotes Concordia Baseball Event in October

The Concordia Texas baseball team is bringing in a former major league star to help them raise money. Lance Berkman is the keynote speaker for their annual Dining with the Stars fundraiser.

The event takes place on October 29th at the United Heritage Center at Dell Diamond. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner with Berkman's presentation to follow begins a 7 p.m.

The program's annual golf tournament takes place at River Place Country Club the following day. All proceeds from both events go towards the baseball team's operating budget.

Berkman was a six-time All-Star and one of the most feared hitters of his generation. The Houston Astros originally selected him in the first round of the 1997 MLB Draft and he played his first 12 years with the franchise.

Berkman led the National League in RBI in 2002 and finished third in Most Valuable Player voting. He helped Houston reach their first World Series in franchise history in 2005.

Berkman won a World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011, the same year he was named NL Comeback Player of the Year. After one final season with the Texas Rangers, he retired in 2014.
