Former Arizona Football Coach Dick Tomey Keynotes Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet

Dick Tomey is a sports legend in the state of Arizona. He was recently well-received when speaking at an event for The Southern Arizona Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

Tomey was the keynote speaker for the 20th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet on April 9th. There were several scholar-athlete honorees in attendance that he was able to address.

The event was hosted at The Doubletree Hotel at Reid Park. A reception started off the festivities at 4:30 p.m.

From 1987-2000, Tomey was the head coach of the Wildcats. He is the winningest coach in the history of the program, going 95-64-4 with seven bowl game appearances.

In 1993, Tomey led the Wildcats to a Pac-10 title and win in the Fiesta Bowl. Arizona also went 12-1 in 1998 and finished fourth in the country after their Holiday Bowl win over Nebraska.

Tomey also had tenures as the head coach at Hawaii and San Jose State. He got a big coaching break by spending six seasons as an assistant at UCLA.
