The United Way of Washington County is making a big push in its fall fundraising campaign. They have raised over 25 percent of their $1.8 million goal. 

At the report meeting on October 19th, East Tennessee State University men's basketball coach Steve Forbes gave United Way campaigners some added motivation. He talked about being flexible and unafraid to change. 

Forbes used many basketball parallels to illustrate his points. He also urged the campaign leaders to do something different to catch people off guard. 

Forbes was named the ETSU head coach in 2015 and led the program to a 20-win season in his first year. This past season, the Buccaneers captured the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships. 

With Forbes leading the Bucs into the NCAA Tournament, he was also named Southern Conference Coach of the Year. It mirrored the kind of success he created in his previous head coaching stop at Northwest Florida State, where he went to back-to-back NJCAA Division 1 National Finals. 

Before arriving at ETSU, Forbes spent time as an assistant at Wichita State. He also has major Division 1 experience coaching at programs like Idaho, Louisiana Tech, Illinois State, Texas A&M and Tennessee.
