Cal State Bakersfield Basketball Coach Rod Barnes Keynotes PAL Fundraiser June 24th

Cal State Bakersfield head basketball coach Rod Barnes is making a visit to his old stomping grounds later this month. The former Ole Miss head coach will be the keynote speaker at the Tupelo Police Athletic League banquet.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. on June 24th at the Tupelo Country Club. Individual tickets are $50 and sponsorship packages at a variety of levels are available. 

Tickets are able to be reserved through June 19th and they hope to raise over $5,000. Barnes' appearance was made possible by the director of the Tupelo PAL program, Jason Smith, one of his former players. 

Barnes has turned in back-to-back seasons of over 24 wins with the Roadrunners. This past year they were Western Athletic Conference regular season champions and advanced to the semifinals of the NIT. 

In 2016. Cal State Bakersfield went to their first NCAA Tournament. Each of the past two seasons, Barnes has been named WAC Coach of the Year. 

After five seasons as an assistant at Ole Miss, Barnes took the reigns of the program in 1998. He coached the Rebels for eight years and was Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 2001 when he led them to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
