Charlotte Touchdown Club and Football Writers Association of America Announce the 2025 Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet Keynote Speaker

Brian Bosworth Set to Headline 2025 Fundraising Event Benefitting Charlotte Area Athletes and Coaches

It is difficult to find a more iconic college football player for his era than Brian “The Boz” Bosworth. The standout hard-nosed linebacker, with his signature neck roll, high fade, and bleach-blonde mullet, terrorized Big Eight offenses and the college football world at large in the mid-80s.

The Charlotte Touchdown Club, in conjunction with the Football Writers Association of America, officially announced today that the college football defensive legend from the University of Oklahoma will be the keynote speaker for the 2025 Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet, scheduled for Monday, December 8th.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is presented annually by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and the Football Writers Association of America to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA defensive football player at the event’s close of the college football season. The award was established in 1993 to complement the Heisman Trophy Award, which had never been presented to a defensive player at the time.

“I am excited to join the Charlotte Touchdown Club and help celebrate the great tradition of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy,” said Bosworth.“Getting to speak that evening and visit with the finalists, who represent the best on the defensive side of the ball in college football, will truly be a thrill!”

Bosworth was a dynamic powerhouse for the Oklahoma Sooners, winning two Butkus Awards as the nation’s top linebacker and being a two-time All-American. With his vibrant personality and bold demeanor, Bosworth was an unforgettable and polarizing figure in college football. Under the guidance of the legendary College Football Hall of Fame coach Barry Switzer, he propelled the Sooners to three consecutive Orange Bowl appearances. He secured three Big Eight Conference championships, amassing an impressive record of 31 wins, four losses, and one tie during his time in Norman.

His NFL career was cut short by injuries, particularly a shoulder issue, leading to only three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, where he recorded 249 tackles and four sacks.

After football, Bosworth transitioned to acting, starring in action films like “Stone Cold” (1991) and appearing in movies such as The Longest Yard (2005) and Three Kings (1999). He also worked as a sports commentator and authored an autobiography, "The Boz" (1988).

More recently, he’s been involved in real estate and has made occasional media appearances in Seattle, where he has been active in business and charity work. Active in the community, he founded a charity called Boz’s Kids, which has provided activities for underprivileged children in Oklahoma. ESPN Films’ 30 For 30: “Brian And The Boz” chronicled Bosworth’s Hall of Fame career.

“The Charlotte Touchdown Club, in partnership with the Football Writers Association of America, is honored to welcome legendary Oklahoma Sooners linebacker Brian Bosworth as the keynote speaker for the 2025 Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet,” said John Rocco, Executive Director of the Charlotte Touchdown Club. “We look forward to hearing from ‘The Boz’ and celebrating the announcement of the 2025 Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner at our prestigious black-tie gala on December 8th.”

The Charlotte Touchdown Club is a non-profit organization founded in 1990 to promote high school, collegiate, and professional football in the Charlotte, North Carolina, region.
