Boxing Champion Mia St. John Keynotes Fabulous Me Conference

On Friday, Seton Hall University hosted a special event for women. The Fabulous Me: Celebration of Womanhood Conference featured boxing champion Mia St. John

There were 220 girls from the ages of 11 to 17 in attendance. The seventh annual conference is put on by the Family Service Bureau of Newark and is funded by a grant from the Governor's Juvenile Justice and Delinquincy Prevention Committee.

The theme of this year's event, #FightLikeAGirl, was particularly apt for St. John's appearance. She talked about mental health, empowerment and dealing with the loss of her son.

St. John was a pioneer for women in boxing. She turned professional in the late 1990s and became a five-time world and international boxing champion.

St. John has compiled an overall career record of 47-12-2. She also became well-known for appearing on a 1999 Playboy cover.

St. John received the WBC Goodwill Ambassador in 2008. She currently operates the El Saber Es Poder Foundation that helps people deal with mental illness, homelessness and addiction.
