Armed Forces Bowl Announces Former Texas Walk-On Nate Boyer as Kickoff Luncheon Speaker

The Armed Forces Bowl has decided on a speaker for their annual kickoff luncheon.  They have announced former University of Texas walk-on and U.S. Army Green Beret Nate Boyer as the keynote presenter.

The luncheon will take place at Omni Fort Worth Hotel on December 22nd at 12 p.m.  Boyer's appearances makes a lot of sense with the bowl's connection to the Big 12 Conference and the military.

He will be able to share great stories about his service and transition back into football.  The game will follow the day after the event featuring schools from the Big 12 and U.S. Naval Academy.

Unlike many college athletes, Boyer did not make the jump immediately after high school.  He instead went to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career before being compelled to join the relief effort in Sudan in 2004.

Following his experience in Sudan, Boyer enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He was accepted into the Green Berets, made multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and served six years before being honorably discharged.

Amazingly, Boyer never played a down of organized football, but made the Longhorns squad as a walk-on in 2010.  He ended up playing 38 straight games at long snapper for UT and even got a shot in training camp with the Seattle Seahawks in 2015.
