Defenders often get overlooked in the world of sports.  That axiom goes out of the window when discussing international soccer star David Luiz however. 

Luiz is one of the world's most popular players.  This week, he signed a deal with eyewear brand Smith Optics to be an official brand ambassador. 

Smith Optics already has several athlete endorsers.  They have already released some teaser advertisements showcasing the new partnership with Luiz. 

Luiz is the vice-captain of Brazil's national team. He made his senior international debut in 2010 and played for the team that won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. 

On the club side, Luiz plays for top French team Paris Saint Germain.  He has been named to the Ligue 1 Team of the Year back-to-back seasons with PSG also capturing the Ligue 1 championship.

Prior to joining PSG, Luiz starred for Chelsea in the English Premier League.  He has competed for Benfica and Vitoria as well.
